Super-low rates for businesses using Chip and Pin terminals

Merchant Account Marketing is the latest welcome addition to Equipoint's brand new serviced offices in Birmingham.
The marketing company, established this August, offers reduced rates to businesses using chip and pin terminals by negotiating with the Bank of Scotland on their behalf.
Usually, when a single business approaches a bank to obtain a merchant account and chip and pin terminal, the rates are extremely high. Banks are cautious with new customers and need to guarantee a reasonable return. But with Merchant Account Marketing, which recently took over Active UK’s account with the Bank of Scotland, it’s a whole different ballgame. The company consistently sends business to the bank, putting them in a position to negotiate lower rates.
Operations Director Simon Chadbund says MAM have a real advantage over Independent Sales Organisations, which means much lower costs and therefore lower fees for customers. “We don’t have to worry about any of the processing costs that ISOs have - the Bank of Scotland is basically our back office,” he says. “Really all we’re doing is negotiating with the bank then introducing them to the merchant.”
MAM moved into Equipoint three weeks ago, having explored a number of serviced offices in the area. Simon says he was impressed by the new wing of the business centre (where MAM is now situated) and its modish decor. “We wanted it as soon as we saw it,” he says. The reception staff are so helpful - they bring clients right to my door. I’ve got a great view of Birmingham city centre too.”
The merchant marketing business is growing at a rate of knots - twelve new salespeople have just been taken on at Luton, and there are twelve more about to start training. Come January Simon anticipates bringing fifteen more on board, with a view to expanding to sixty within eight months, covering the whole of the UK.
“The market is perfect now,” says the Operations Director. “People don’t carry cash, they carry cards. The recession has just increased this trend because people don’t want cash in their pockets in case they spend it.” He says MAM is about to land a huge contract - “We’re not just dealing with corner-shops,” he explains.
