Invaluable youth training at Davis House

Davis House in Croydon is pleased to have YMCA Training on its list of serviced offices licencees. The national charity does fantastic work with young people, developing their personal, vocational, and work-related skills to help them find employment. Services range from advanced apprenticeships to Foundation Learning to employment skills and job search training.
YMCA Training’s Future Job Fund manager, Jo Duncan, moved into Davis House office space a year ago. ‘We were attracted by the price and the business centre’s central Croydon location,’ she says.
Jo has been at YMCA Training for eighteen months now, and she’s passionate about their work. The charity has contracts with various organisations, businesses and government initiatives, including the Department for Work and Pensions, and Flexible New Deal.
Jo is currently managing a contract with the Future Jobs Fund, one of the DWP’s campaigns. In two years the FJF has funded 100,000 jobs, mainly for 18–24 year olds who have been out of work for six months and claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance. YMCA Training works alongside the fund, helping scores of young people into work experience for anything up to six months. Jo says the partnership is proving extremely successful; ‘We’ve helped so many young people gain an understanding of work and work ethics. The aim is to make sure as many as possible end up with jobs after their work experience.’
YMCA Training has recently secured a new training provider through the Future Jobs Fund: The Next Generation Project, or NXG, helps young people develop their creative skills through arts and media-based projects and workshops. NXG has provided forty new vacancies.
