RAF at Kestrel Court

JDF & Associates MD Richard Furness is passionate about railways. Having pursued a highly successful career in flow measurement and metrology, his business recently took an unexpected turn into the realm of railways and steam engines. Richard is currently in the process of writing a series of sought-after books on railway posters, Poster to Poster, and sales are high for the first two volumes.
Richard explains that his hobby-turned-business grew from a childhood fascination with numbers and names, especially those on trains and aircraft. He has in fact flown on all bar five of the entire British Airways jumbo fleet, and is determined to get on board the rest. His contributions to the National Railway Museum are testament to his collector’s instinct.
The author recently showed Pure Offices an especially rare collector’s item. It’s a steam locomotive nameplate from one of the Royal Scot class, built by the London Midland & Scottish Railway between 1927 and 1930. Most engines were named after military bodies, many of them army regiments. A few however, like The Boy Scout and The Girl Guide, took their names from other groups. Only two engines have been preserved, The Royal Scot and The Scots Guardsman, and the nameplates are now like gold dust. Richardʼs nameplate was once borne by engine 46159, The Royal Air Force, and is a highly-prized collectable. It seems appropriate that it should be in his custody - his initials are RAF and his parents met in the RAF.
